VARSITY:  Mavs Run into Strong KLAA Teams

Last week, the Lady Mavs varsity played too tough KLAA opponents.

4/22 at Hartland:  The Lady Mavs varsity started out strong against a very good Hartland team, and played even, but neither team could score in the first half, ending 0-0.

In the second half, Hartland’s Hailey Pleshavov broke loose and scored three times against the Mavs, with the game ending 3-0.  Hartland’s record is now 5-1-1, while the Mavs dropped to 3-4 for the season.

4/20 at Pinckney:  the Lady Mavs varsity traveled to the far end of the KLAA conference, and found themselves behind quickly by two goals in the first few minutes.  The Mavs put some good pressure on the offensive end, but couldn’t get the momentum back, falling behind in the first half, 4-0.  The Mavs tightened up the second half, but the Pirates scored two more goals, with the game ending 6-0.  Pinckney’s record is now 5-1-1.

JV:  Mavs Come Up Short Against Tough KLAA

4/22 at Hartland:   the Lady Mavs JV traveled to Hartland to face an active, fast Eagles team. Hartland applied constant early pressure, but keeper Casey Kubat, and defenders Emma Griffiths and Shannon Durso, as well as midfielder Lianna Bottenberg, kept Hartland from scoring for the first 15 minutes.  Finally, Hartland scored two quick goals, before Ellie Bothwell put a perfect long high shot over the Hartland keeper into the net to make it 2 – 1, and her first goal of the year.  Hartland scored once more before half and twice in the second half for a 5-1 final score. Kayla Cupp made some nice saves as the second half keeper for Milford.

4/20 at Pinckney:  the JV played against a very good Pinckney JV team, and the Mavs quickly fell behind by 2 goals before Megan Darby put a nice long shot over the keeper and under the crossbar to bring Milford within one, and her first goal of the season.  The score remained 2-1 at halftime as keeper Casey Kubat settled down and held Pinckney at bay with defensive help from Emma Griffiths, Madelyn Ritten, and Shannon Durso.

Milford was unable to score in the second half despite pressure from forwards Lianna Bottenberg, Chloe George, Chloe Zebari and midfielder Allison Fodell.  Pinckney tallied twice more for a 4 - 1 final.
